South Africa’s Trevor Noah Revealed How His Voice Played A Major Role In Black Panther

If you didn’t spot Trevor Noah in Black Panther, you weren’t alone — just don’t tell him his role wasn’t an important one.

The Daily Show host stopped by Wednesday night’s episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and explained his involvement in the hit movie. “I was involved in a high level,” Noah tells Colbert of his uncredited role. “I don’t like to brag about this…I was in Black Panther, the smash hit.”

He then went on to describe how the movie’s director Ryan Coogler approached him and asked if he’d like to be the star of the film. “I said, ‘No, no, no, I’ve got the Daily Show and he said okay I’ll get Chadwick Boseman,” joked Noah. Next, Noah says Coogler asked him to “do the whole thing that Michael B. Jordan does” but the comedian felt that that’d make for too many six packs on set.

In the end, Noah and Coogler settled on a crucial role for the Daily Show host: “I’m like, ‘I will be the voice of the computer in the background, the computer that runs everything’ — every spaceship you see is me,” says Noah. “A lot of people think I just did the lines there, but I’m everything. I’m the ship as well. They got me in to play the ship.” And to prove it, Noah acts out being a spaceship…kinda.

The Daily Show airs weeknights at 11 p.m. ET on Comedy Central. Watch the Late Show clip above.
